Coach Bio – Rico Gonzalez

Rico Gonzalez joined the Quad City Raider coaching staff last year as the special team’s coordinator and made an immediate impact. After seeing vast improvement in all facets of the special team performance for the 2016 season the Quad City Raiders awarded him the coach of the year this off season.

Coach Gonzalez started his football and baseball careers at Senn Metro Academy HS in Chicago where he was a three year starter at center. Being recognized as a baseball standout, Coach Rico was a minor league selectee for the South bend White Sox. After high school, Coach served six years in the United States Marine Corps. Once discharged he began coaching baseball for the Chicago Park District. While with the Chicago Park District he led his team to their district championship.

Once Rico moved to the Quad Cities he remained a dual sport athlete where he played football for the now defunct Quad City Stallions and the Quad City Wolfpack football teams. He also coached for the Pleasant Valley Jr and High Schools in Bettendorf, IA. Rico has a son, Rick Gonzalez, who is currently a track and field stand out for Mount Mercy University.
